Adams Visit/Pink Palace Museum

Adam was able to visit for a couple of days this week so he didn't have to ride out the hurricane, and because no one was at work. (I thought he had to evacuate because I didn’t get all the conversations, which made me really afraid!) But he didn't ha ha

We had a lot of fun and Brock loved his Uncle Adam

We were looking for things to do while he was here (that were cheap). I have a list that has all the free things to do in Memphis. I rememebered that the Pink Palace Museum was on the list. Thinking it was just free for Tennessee residents like everything else here; which would be free for us and we just would have to pay for Adam.  So we headed over after lunch at the BBQ shop. We called before we went in and we were surprised to find it was actually free for everyone! (Next time someone visits we will have to go!)

This is a Museum of everything! First off it’s a HUGE mansion built by the guy who made the piggly wigglys and donated to Memphis for a museum. Then they added on to it.

They have a natural history exhibits, Cultural history Exhibits, a Mansion exhibit, A history of Memphis exhibit, (with lots of stuff on Elvis, he was on the extra part of the exhibit because he died 35 years ago this month. It’s been non-stop Elvis here.) a Imax theater, a planetarium, a restaurant and a gift shop.

Here are some pictures we took:

As you can tell its huge! They started building it in 1922
its 36500 square feet

Lots of cool Dinosaurs stuff, even more in the exhibits.

Pictures of the Mansion

A handmade Circus, Seriously all carved and it moves!

This is a Shrunken head. A real one! they take the bones out from the back of the head and soak it in herbs and stuff.... and this is what you get. Gross.

Birthday, and a swim party!

So last year on my birthday was Michaels first day of school. I was new to Memphis and didn’t know a soul and needed a job, so I just searched for jobs alone at home until dinner time when Michael came home, definitely a sad birthday day. (We did celebrate with family before we moved so that was fun) So this year my birthday on Saturday; which meant Michael was home all day! And actually is home all week, since he just finished his Mini Term! So Friday we went out to eat and to a cheesecake place. I decided I wanted to try something new so we went to a Vietnamese place... not knowing anything about Vietnamese food. I think we ordered the wrong thing. It wasn’t bad but it was like Chinese food and Michael got a curry but it was bland compared to Thai food. I asked a couple of people on the way out and got some ideas of what to order for next time. It was still fun though

The cheese cake place was really why I am blogging about my birthday! It’s called the Cheesecake Corner and oh my goodness was it delicious. They just sell cheesecakes all different flavors:

I got a Raspberry White chocolate and Michael got a Carmel White chocolate

It was pretty expensive but very good; I think we will have to wait a year to go back :)

On the day of my birthday the SCO gang wanted to have a pool party to celebrate the end of the summer term and to swim in the pool before it closed for the year. It rained most of the day but when it came time to go over it was a nice day still in the 80s.

We all brought something to eat and just hung out, played volleyball then headed to the pool! They made me cupcakes and sang me happy birthday! A good day for sure :)

Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes! I had a good couple of days to celebrate. :)

Its Traces old swim suit so its 3-6 months but it worked for a day. And he looks so dang cute in it! ha ha

So this is a picture of all the girls who had babies this year (so far) it’s in order of the babies births.

Sam and Paul are first, he was born on the 2nd of April. She lives right by us here in midtown and I have really loved hanging out with her. We've been hanging out lately while our husbands are in school. She is really fun and I think we have a lot in common. She has been my outlet of being cooped up all day! I am really grateful for her and love having her as a friend!

Next is Kelsey and Daxton, he was born on the 2nd of May. He was 16 days early and weighed 8lbs 9 oz.; the same as his older brother Tacen! And this girl did it without an epidural!! She is seriously the most active girl I know, she is always doing something fun! Her house is decorated so beautifully and she made a lot of the decorations! She is always doing some fun crafts and is an amazing photographer! We had a lot of fun Craft days with her when we were all pregnant. She did a Baby shower for me and it was so cute, and I had so much fun.

Next is Jen and Mickinley, she was born on the 26th of May. She was born 1 hour after she would be considered not a premie (so at 37 weeks). She has another little girl named Madison (who she is just adorable) and she was a premie (born at 31 weeks I think...) Jen is so tough, she has had rough pregnancies and dealt with both babies in the hospital, and has been so positive about it. She talked to me a lot when Brit had her baby early. And she also delivered Mickinley without an epidural. She is an amazing mom; I told Michael the other day I think Jen is Fearless!

Then Me and Brock, born on the 4th of July

So we all of our babies are about one month apart down the line. It’s been a great blessing to me because all of these ladies have been so helpful, giving me advice and helping me out with Brock (and my pregnancy). I needed to be the last to have a baby, so I could have the most help!

Our first year in Memphis

I realized that just the other day was the first anniversary of coming to live in Memphis. I almost couldnt believe it. And I ALMOST can't believe how much our lives have changed in this year. We have been experiencing a different culture here and we have learned to enjoy the people here.
It was really hard for us to live here. Not only have we never been so far away from home (besides Michaels Mission) but to live in a city where its kind of scary, and to not know where to go to stay out of the bad parts of town. Luckily we didnt have too many experiences, and we just dont watch the news anymore.
Its made us really grateful for where we are from. People in Utah and Idaho take care of thier city and the people there. (for the most part)
We have learned all about different religons and different beliefs and what its like to share the gospel. Its been a real experience in our new ward to have so many converts and investigators. We have some amazing misionaries here and they have done really a lot of work. We love feeding the missionaries and we do about every other week now.
I have learned how to DRIVE more aggressively and not to be a big chicken. Driving in Utah is nothing compared to people and roads here.
Michael has learned so much about being a eye doctor. They really just started him full force. (I have learned a lot too considering I am always a guinea pig.)
Along with a new culture I have learned a lot more about different foods and some good recipes ( we now have a deep love for BBQ and fried chicken).
We have learned the meaning to words like giggin' and Allyall' and kind of learned how to understand the deep southern drawl that folks here have.. (Instead of "cataracts" they say "cadillacs".)

BUT......
most of all and most importantly what we have learned here is:
 how to be parents
Patience and endless love
how to change a diaper super fast at 2 in the morning
how to calm our baby down and what certain cries mean
(he sounds like a Eagle when he is hungry its hilarious)
how to laugh when he pees all over everything when you're not looking
how it feels when he smiles and laughs at you
how wonderful it is to have him grow and learn right before you eyes

Here are some recent pictures of our little baby Brock:

1 month old!

Brock is now 1 month old! And what a month it has been, we have definitely had ups and downs with him, but overall he is a pretty happy boy (and a good baby)

Heres some things about Brock:

He is getting really good with his neck and loves to use it. We have been head butted a few times but it doesnt seem to hurt him so its ok.
He really likes Tummy time and of course using his neck and looking around,
(see there is a neck under that chub!)

Loves sitting up (I think he will be sitting up before rolling over). He sits like this for quite a while just happy and looking around.

He gets all excited and throws his arms around when Dad gives him kisses

So this makes us laugh, whenever we are changing his diaper or he is in his crib he has to stick his arm out. Every time he manages to wiggle his way over to stick his arm out. I only have a phone picture of him in the crib Ill try and get a good picture of him doing it.

He is getting better at sleeping, instead of waking up every 1 1/2 hours he has been giving us good solid 3 hours and once was 3 1/2 hours. Of course last night it was every 50 mins....

We have tried and tried to get a picture of his smile. Which will melt your heart! But we are not so good at it. But we will keep trying.  (He has been doing it a lot more so it should be soon!)

He surprised us all with a good LAUGH yesterday when dad was holding him. It was adorable, we tried to get it on video but failed. We will keep trying

He is talking more and more each day

We have been going out and doing things with him lately and he has been so good. We went to a friends house for dinner and he was passed around and just was happy and content the whole time. We took him out to lunch yesterday and we thought he was asleep in his carseat. We peeked in and he was AWAKE just looking around and perfectly content.

He loves his swing, I hadn't really put him in it but I had to go to the bathroom once so I just put him in and when I came back he was so happy. So I sat and watched him and he feel asleep!

He recently has discovered his bouncer and his love for that!

We played around and weight him on a friends scale we think we weighs about 12 lbs.

He has Light brown eyes (they look just like his dad's)

He has been losing his hair but so far its just on top, so basically he is already going bald!
